Nurturing Confidence in the Water
Crab Swimming Lessons
What are Crab Swimmers?
– Independent beginner swimmers (4+ years)
– Small group class of 4
– Can swim without a parent in the water
– Basic understanding of water
– May not have had lessons before
Crab swimming lessons focus on helping young swimmers become more confident and independent in the water while keeping learning fun and engaging. Each class includes songs, games, and interactive activities that make swimming enjoyable while reinforcing important water skills. During the lesson, children work on developing breath control and becoming comfortable with submersion, allowing them to build trust in the water while practicing safe and controlled breathing techniques.
As swimmers progress through the Crab level, instructors focus on teaching proper kicking techniques and helping children learn how to propel themselves through the water with their eyes down. These skills improve coordination, balance, and overall body position in the water. Through independent kicking, paddling, and floating exercises, children continue strengthening their mobility and buoyancy. We encourage as much independent swimming as possible so each child gains confidence and skill with every lesson. By the time swimmers are ready to advance to the Octopus level, they will be able to independently kick, paddle, and submerge to their instructor.
